ONE of the UK’s largest forestry companies has announced the restructuring of its senior management team – which will see a key figure stand down after a decade at the firm.
BSW Group has confirmed the appointment of several new board members amid plans to integrate its subsidiaries across its operations.
Longstanding CEO Tony Hackney – who has been in post since 2008 – moves into the newly created role of UK chairman. Tony’s new role will see him stepping away from the day-to-day operations to focus on the strategic growth of the business.

Following the sale of BSW Group to Binderholz, Gebhard Dünser has joined the board as chief operating officer, working alongside existing chief financial officer, Alan Milne.
Further additions to the operations board include Scott Grant, managing director – Pallets (Manufactured); Kevin McNeilly, managing director – Pallets (Reconditioned); and Robert Maclean, group general counsel. All of these appointments previously held senior positions at the Scott Group, which was acquired by BSW Group in December 2022.
Norman Scott, meanwhile, has stepped down from his role leading the Scott Group. Tracy Trotter also left her group finance director role at the end of July.
Finally, Gavin Adkins, managing director of Tilhill and Maelor Forest Nurseries, has also left BSW Group. Over his ten years at the business, Gavin played a significant role during the numerous acquisitions and the sale to Endless LLP, and then on to Binderholz.
In full, the BSW operations board is as follows: Alan Milne, chief financial officer; Gebhard Dünser, chief operating officer; Harry Stevens, forestry director; Mike Lomas, operations director; Mike Faulkner, commercial director; Scott Grant, managing director – Pallets (Manufactured); Kevin McNeilly, managing director – Pallets (Reconditioned); Robert Maclean, group general counsel; and Adrian Tarrant, HR director.
Tony Hackney, UK Chairman at BSW Group, said: “The changes to the senior management team have been made to support the strategy of integrating the UK operations, while aligning us with our parent company and facilitating improved communications and decision-making across the global Binderholz Group.
"For many, this reorganisation generates very little change to their day-to-day activity, but for others there is additional responsibility and fresh challenges, as we look to further cement our market-leading position within the forestry and timber sectors. We do say goodbye to some much-valued colleagues, who have played significant roles in the growth of both BSW and respected companies within the Group. We’d like to wish them well in the next stages of either their careers or retirement.”
Elsewhere, BSW has launched four new websites as it aims to drive further innovation within the timber sector. With forestry and timber businesses increasingly reliant on digital assets, and making services accessible to a wider audience, BSW Group has backed a number of its subsidiaries, with BSW Timber, Bayram Timber, IRO Timber and Wood Fuel Direct all benefitting from revamped digital spaces.
