SCOTTISH Forestry chiefs have issued an urgent message reminding people they need felling permission to remove trees blown over by Storm Arwen.
High winds - reaching speeds of up to 100 mph - blew down trees, blocking trails and roads, and causing extensive damage to woodlands across Scotland at the weekend.
With a warning already in place to avoid forests until Forest and Land Scotland chiefs, who manage the sites, can fully assess the situation, another notice has been issued regarding the removal of winblown trees.

In a social media update, Scottish Forestry bosses said: "In the aftermath of Storm Arwen there are many overhanging/fallen trees, creating a very dangerous environment.
"Members of the public should stay well clear of the forests until made safe.
"Only trained professionals should attempt to clear windblown trees. It can be a very dangerous job and only skilled operators should undertake this kind of work."
While at this point it is understood the Scottish Windblow Action Committee (SWAC) is yet to be instigated, Scottish Forestry bosses were due to discuss this in a meeting on Thursday and an update is expected this morning.
The update added: "Felling Permissions are needed for windblown trees - unless they are posing a danger to people/property or blocking access."
