POWER tool and machinery manufacturer Makita is to discontinue machine products from 2022.
The decision has been made in response to the heightened awareness of global environmental issues and increasing needs for higher-specification ‘greener’ cordless products, Makita said.
The company has been enhancing its development, production and sales of cordless products that can offer improved environmental benefits and expects such products to grow in popularity due to changes in global legislation and increased consumer demand.

In a statement, the company said: “With our current motor and battery charging/discharging technologies and our ongoing research and development plans to improve the range of alternative cordless products for the future, the decision was made to accelerate the departure from engine products and focus on cordless solutions for power tools and outdoor power equipment.”
Makita will discontinue the production of engine products from 31 March 2022.
