In this series of articles, we will be sharing exclusive coverage from APF 2024.
One of the biggest European sawmilling machinery manufacturers, as well as a leader in horizontal log sawing technology, Mebor made a welcome return to the APF, at which it has been exhibiting since 2010.
On stand this year it was showing its horizontal band saws, which are proving popular in the UK, where Mebor has more than 35 customers so far. Shown sawing logs was the 1100 band saw, one of its best-selling models, and a combined board edger.
Sales manager Simon Mesec said: “The 1100 is our medium-sized machine from us. It is fitted with a 140 mm wide blade, which ensures fast cutting and more importantly also high precision and overall lower blade cost. The machine is also highly automated, so we have a control system with an automated sawing sequence.
"After the operator sets the position for the first cut, he can choose all the sizes in advance and then the machine will follow the cutting plan and do the cutting on its own. The maximum log diameter we can do on this machine is a metre, so it's very versatile, capable of sawing small to big logs and also suited for either softwoods or hardwoods.”
Asked for the key to its popularity, he said: “I would say it's a really good price performance ratio. It's very flexible and in the price range it's in, I would say it is probably the fastest machine available, so it's a really good price and performance ratio and covers a wide range of needs that customers have including, for example, long lengths because every machine is customized for every customer to the length of log they need to cut.
“The UK has been a very good market for us. We have more customers every year purchasing horizontal bandsaws, but also complete sawing lines where the process is automated from start to finish. Mebor has been growing a lot, now selling to 70 countries worldwide. The first time we came to the APF we had about 35 people at the company and now we are over 100. So we've been doing very well and we'll be working hard in the future to continue to do so.”
