SERRA

SERRA was born out of a love of wood in 1990. For more than 30 years, the company has been known for its high-quality, “Made in Germany” log band sawmills and it was recently awarded a “Top 100 Innovation” prize.

The love of wood guides Serra: it works in wooden buildings, heats with wood and processes wood. It is, therefore, well versed in this valuable raw material and this is the right basis for building excellent machines.

Serra has been part of the successful Austrian Wintersteiger group since the beginning of 2019, which also owns its UK sales and service provider, Trials Equipment, based in Essex. Trials Equipment is highly experienced and trained in hydraulics and electrics and has proven its ability to maintain Serra machines across the country over the past two years.

Horizontal log band sawmills are Serra’s core competence. Four different size classes permit logs with a maximum diameter of 90, 110, 135 or 160 centimetres to be sawn.

Most of the sawmills that Serra has sold to over 80 different countries are fully mobile with road wheels, lighting and towbar equipment built into their frames.

Its customers thus avoid long transport routes for the raw material, critical when time is money.

Serra also offers peripheral equipment for the sawmill, and plans complete systems. These include round and sawn timber conveyors, various take-off systems, buffer tables, board jointers, etc.

Serra also develops and produces circular and band saw-based resaws. All these products complement the log bandsaws and significantly increase your performance.

Thanks to close cooperation with parent company Wintersteiger, customers benefit from a unique service package consisting of sawmill machines and the matching saw blades. The saw blades are specially optimised for the specific application and the material to be cut and have been delivering customers the best results with maximum quality and cost-effectiveness for years.

WOOD-MIZER
LT20START

WOOD-MIZER’S mission was to craft a sawmill that combines hydraulics and functionality at an incredible price. It achieved that goal with the LT20START.

This sawmill combines advanced technology with practical solutions, delivering exceptional wood milling quality without a hefty investment. The LT20START meets the market’s needs and wood-processing professionals’ expectations.

Perfection accessible to all
The Wood-Mizer LT20START redefines the concept of a technically advanced sawmill with full hydraulics, making it accessible to a broad audience thanks to its fair price.

Specifications meet challenges
The LT20START model enables precise sawmilling of logs with a maximum diameter of 80 cm and a length of 6.1 m. The hydraulic package of the LT20START includes three side supports, a central clamp, a turner, two levelling rollers, and loading arms. The user operates hydraulic functions through intuitive levers, enabling efficient work and reducing the time needed to produce planks or beams. Optional bed extensions of 1.8 m, 3.6 m, or 7.2 m allow users to customise the machine for sawmilling longer logs, expanding the sawmill’s application range and opening new business opportunities.

The LT20START sawmill has an ergonomic control panel with the SW10 Setworks device for automatic cutting height adjustment, eliminating the need for manual calculations and adjustments. An 11 kW electric motor provides sufficient power for soft- and hardwood processing.

Standard equipment includes roof-shaped (angled) bedrails, effectively preventing bark from accumulating under the processed log and significantly improving sawmilling precision. This solution is supported by optional stainless steel covers, providing additional bed protection.

An electrically extended guide arm stabilises the blade during log cutting. The blade-lubrication system automatically engages when the blade starts working.

The LT20START sawmill can also be equipped with a debarker. This device makes a preliminary cut in the bark, extending the blade’s life and enhancing the precision and quality of cuts.

PETERSON PORTABLE SAWMILLS

FOR almost 35 years, Peterson Portable Sawmills have been the passion and livelihood of thousands of satisfied sawmillers worldwide; from farmers and woodlot owners to custom sawyers, arborists, woodworkers and commercial operators, who enjoy the most efficient portable sawmills in the world, matched with after-sales service that is second to none.

With Peterson, you get what you pay for; durable, well-designed, efficient, and versatile portable sawmills with custom-built features that will save you time and money on running costs. Designed and manufactured in New Zealand and exported globally, from the highlands of Papua New Guinea to the snow peaks of Alaska, Peterson makes machines that are well engineered, adaptable, and built to last.

They are designed with safety in mind – all Peterson Portable Sawmills are CE Certified. The Peterson brand began in 1989, when Carl Peterson sold his first portable swingblade mill. Even though it was only a basic version, it was a true invention – the world’s first commercially available portable swingblade sawmill!

A machine that combats the issues of portability, limited cut sizes, blade costs, time efficiency and durability.

Today, Peterson boasts a range of five top-of-the-line models catering for a wide range of users, from hobby millers to professional foresters. Widely admired for the world-class engineering of their products, Peterson proudly cut, weld, treat, build, and individually test every single machine with love and care, to the highest workmanship standards.

Apart from the Junior Peterson (made from mild steel to achieve a lower price point), the entire Peterson range is manufactured using hand-polished stainless steel and aluminium. This makes them virtually rust free and means the mills are robust in performance and most importantly they maintain long-term durability in even the harshest conditions.

Peterson Portable Sawmills’ website is home to hundreds of interesting owners’ stories, and endless testimonials.

But these clever Kiwis have undoubtedly the greatest resources in the world for people who have never heard of their brand or technology. If you’re researching a sawmill purchase, you would agree that the best people to speak to are those who operate the machines on a regular basis. As a result of identifying this need, Peterson has created an ‘Owner’s Network’: a global map of Peterson owners who have put their hand up to take your calls, answer all your questions and even demonstrate their mill to help you make the most informed decision possible.

You really can do it all with a Peterson and, with global support only a call away, why settle for anything less?

LIVINGSTON GARDEN MACHINERY
LOGOSOL

LOGOSOL is a Sweden-based international company that specialises in the design and manufacture of machinery for small-scale wood processing. Founded in 1989 by Bengt-Olov Byström, the company is still owned and run by the Byström family in Härnösand.

Logosol products are known for simplicity of design, reliability, and efficiency. The modular nature of its sawmills and accessories means that you can easily upgrade at the same rate as the growth of your own business. Logosol offers long-term reliability, extensive support and products that retain their high value.

The latest addition to the Logosol line-up is the B1651 band saw. Competitively priced with options starting from £23,600 + VAT, the Logosol B1651 is an extremely stable band sawmill with enormous capacity. It is suitable for efficiently sawing slabs up to 1,500 mm wide. The heavy-duty saw rail is designed to easily handle the weight of the enormous logs that the sawmill can handle. A unique feature is that you can saw both huge logs and small logs in the same efficient and precise way, which makes the usability very broad.

Compared with sawmills of similar size and price range, there is a big difference in both function and robust construction. The B1651 is more stable, smarter, and easier to use.

The B1651 has reinforced log shelves, reinforced rail construction, extra feet under the log shelves, and reinforced, rigid, torsional saw bed ends. You can handle extraordinarily large logs on the 1,764 mm wide and 6,232 mm long saw rail. The standard Logosol B1651 saws very large logs, up to 4,380 mm long and 1,651 mm in diameter. If you need to saw longer logs, the sawmill can be extended to any length.

When you are considering investing in one of Logosol’s machines it is well worth looking at its YouTube channel with its extensive range of live demo videos – showing the many advantages its machinery offerd, as well as real-time use of the machines; not hiding the challenges that processing timber can present!

Livingston Garden Machinery based in the Scottish central belt, is one of Logosol’s UK distributors. It offers machinery demonstrations from its showroom and will happily advise you on your sawmill selection and support you throughout the process.
